IRONMAN 70.3 · Cozumel · 26 Sept 2027
How to train for IRONMAN 70.3 Cozumel
Cozumel has no hills to talk about, so people talk about their target time instead. The organiser calls both the bike and the run flat and paved, and the files agree without a single exception. Every metre of this course reads as flat. That sounds like a gift, and for the first hour of the ride it is one.
What the profile cannot show is the weather. The organiser logged a high of 33 C in 2025 and the same again in 2024, and the low in 2024 held at 27 C. On an island off the Yucatan Peninsula with no terrain to manage, heat is the course. Environmental resilience scores 90 on every leg, above everything else the day asks for.

What is actually on the road
The organiser's own course files, drawn the way the Event Analyzer draws a member's race.
- Swim1.89 km4 m upCourse file
- Bike90.1 km90 m upCourse file
- Run21.5 km in 2 laps30 m upCourse file
The swim is in the sea, 1.9 km with a rolling start. Athletes enter the water in a continuous stream through one access point and their time starts at the mats. The organiser asks you to seed yourself by your projected swim time. It does not insist, but it encourages it. The water read 27 C in 2025 and 28 C the year before.
The bike starts at the Chankanaab parking lot, which is T1, and runs 1.3 laps of the highway around the island in a counter-clockwise direction. It measures 90.1 km and climbs 90 m in total, which over that distance is nothing at all. The engine reads the whole leg as one flat segment. It ends at T2, next to City Hall in the heart of downtown, so the two transitions sit in different places and your gear does too.
The run is 2 laps of 21.5 km on flat, paved streets past the waterfront walk, the downtown main plaza and the historic neighborhoods. It climbs 30 m. Like the bike, it reads as one segment from start to finish.

What this course asks of each leg
Twelve training dimensions scored for each leg against its own course, the way the Event Analyzer scores a member's race.
On this island, heat comes first and the endurance pair second. Aerobic endurance scores 85 on every leg and muscular endurance 80 on the bike and the run. Because the bike fills 51 percent of a Trained athlete's day, heat on the bike is the heaviest demand on the whole course, and heat on the run ranks seventh.
Everything that terrain would normally add is missing. High-intensity capacity reads 40 on all three legs. Strength and force reads 35 on the bike and 30 on the run. Nothing on this island asks for a surge. The one leg that asks for skill is the swim, where technical skill scores 71 against 34 on the bike, because a rolling start into open sea puts the whole question of line and rhythm on you.
Ask the engine to turn this bike into a session and it hands back a single hour in Zone 4 without a break, bracketed by an easy warm-up and cool-down. There are no repeats in it, because there is nothing on the course to repeat. The leg is a single even effort, and the session is that effort in miniature.
A Trained athlete swims 37:57, rides 2:55:07 at 182 W and runs 2:01:45, for 5:44:49. The run is 35 percent of that day, a big slice, because a bike this flat goes by quickly. The Competitive band finishes in 5:01:11 from 4.15 W/kg at 75 kg and 4:20 /km threshold pace. It gains about 20 minutes on the bike and 18 on the run, nearly as much on foot over 21 km as on wheels over 90.

Nymiva reads what you can already show, from your own data
Connect your training history and the Focus Lab scores the same twelve dimensions this course demands against where you sit today. The gap between the two is what you train.
- MeasuredFrom your thresholds and testsThreshold power, threshold pace, critical swim speed and field tests you have done. The dimensions they can carry are scored directly.
- EstimatedFrom your training historyConnected activities are read for what they prove: long efforts, late-session fade, repeated hard work, fueling on long days. Each score says how it was read.
- ProxyFrom a stand-in, and named as oneWhere only an indirect signal exists, the score carries the proxy it came from and a lower confidence, never a number dressed as a measurement.
- UnmeasuredHonestly blankA dimension nothing in your data can answer stays unmeasured. It is never a zero, and the plan does not pretend to know it.
Every dimension ends in one word
- Develop the course asks more than you can show
- Maintain close enough to hold at the minimum dose
- Covered nothing to build here
- Unmeasured the course needs it, your data cannot say yet
Nymiva scores a race and an athlete on one shared set of twelve dimensions. For the race, the scores come from the course file and the conditions the organiser records. For the athlete, they come from thresholds and connected history, and every score states where it came from and how much to trust it. A gap exists only where the race asks more than the athlete can show, and gaps are ranked by how much of the day they fill.
Nobody's data sits behind this page. Its season assumes the gaps fall where the demands are biggest, and on that basis lays out 24 weeks in 5 developmental blocks with a two-week taper at the end. Aerobic endurance leads the first block in every sport. In the second the swim moves to threshold capacity while the bike and run work on aerobic durability. The third turns that around, with threshold capacity on land and technical skill in the water. Muscular endurance leads the fourth block, and aerobic endurance returns for the fifth. A member's season comes from their own numbers and will not look like this one.

Train the bike to protect the run
Which demands matter most across the whole race. A leg's demand counts for as much of the day as that leg takes, so a score of 85 on the bike outweighs the same score on the swim.
- 01Environmental resilienceBike leg, 51% of the day90 × 51%46
- 02Aerobic enduranceBike leg, 51% of the day85 × 51%43
- 03Muscular enduranceBike leg, 51% of the day80 × 51%41
The bike takes 51% of the Trained reference band’s day, so its demands carry the most race weight. What the bike leaves in the legs is what the run gets.
Which demand gets a block, and when
The engine freezes one lead focus per sport on every developmental block, holds the rest at maintenance, and verifies before it reprioritises.
An illustration, not your plan. This page has none of your data, so the season below is the engine’s answer to one stated assumption: that your gaps line up with what IRONMAN 70.3 Cozumel demands. Your own season is built from your history, your thresholds, the days you can train and the races you have entered, and it will differ from this in its priorities, its sessions and its load.

Where it is decided
At T2, next to City Hall.
Not in the transition itself, but in the state you arrive in. The bike is 2:55:07 of flat highway for a Trained athlete, one segment with no climb to slow you down and no descent to recover on, and the whole leg is the decisive stretch of the ride. Every minute of it happens in the heat. A rider who held 182 W steadily from Chankanaab to downtown gets off with a run left in them. A rider who rode the first lap to the speed the flat road offered gets off with the same average and a very different body.
Then look at the gap between the bands again. The Competitive athlete gains nearly as much on the run as on the bike. That time is not made by a better runner alone. It is made by someone who stepped off the bike able to run 1:43:27 on the waterfront after more than three hours in the heat. The bike decides whether the run happens. The run decides the result.
Getting it wrong
Seeding too far forward. The rolling start lets you choose where you stand, and ambition picks a spot two minutes faster than your real swim. You spend the first 400 m fighting water that belongs to quicker swimmers, in a sea at 28 C, and you carry that effort onto the bike.
Riding to the speedometer. The island highway is flat and paved, the kind of road where riders chase an average speed instead of a power. The first lap feels easy, so it gets ridden harder than planned. Because the course runs 1.3 laps, part of that road comes round again later, and it does not feel easy the second time.
Racing the first lap of the run. The waterfront walk and the main plaza are full of people, and the opening kilometres of a flat run never feel like the problem. The second lap in 33 C is where the problem lives.

Every session is a claim, every block is a test
A plan is not a calendar. Each key session states what it trains and how that is checked, and each block ends with a public verdict before the next one is chosen.
What a block promises
Bike aerobic endurance moves from your baseline to a stated target by the end of Foundation 1
- The baseline is your measured score when the block starts. The target is the score the model predicts for it.
- Verified at the block’s recovery week, by a field test or a refresh of the supply read from your history.
- Confidence rises by agreement between independent signals, never by one metric crossing a line.
- A block that misses its target is a public miss. The next block is chosen from what was proven, not from what was planned.
- 01Stimulus achievedThe work landed in the zone the session named, for the dose it named.
- 02Partially achievedSome of the work landed. The session banks what it can prove.
- 03Not achievedThe load may have been there. The stimulus was not, so nothing is banked.
- 04Data insufficientNo usable stream. The session is neither credited nor blamed.

Questions people ask
- Is the IRONMAN 70.3 Cozumel course flat?
- Completely. The organiser calls the bike and run flat and paved, and the files read every metre of the course as flat. The bike climbs 90 m over 90 km and the run 30 m over two laps, spread so thinly that no single rise registers as a climb.
- How hot is IRONMAN 70.3 Cozumel?
- The organiser logged a high of 33 C in both 2025 and 2024, with lows of 25 C and 27 C. The sea read 27 C in 2025 and 28 C in 2024. Heat is the largest single demand on every leg of this course.
- Where are the transitions at IRONMAN 70.3 Cozumel?
- The transitions are split. T1 is at the Chankanaab parking lot, where the bike starts. T2 is next to Cozumel's City Hall in the heart of downtown, where the bike finishes after 1.3 laps of the island highway and the run begins.
- How long is the season on this page?
- The illustrative season runs 24 weeks, with five developmental blocks and a two-week taper. It is built from the course alone. A member's season starts from their own numbers and can be longer.
